As Jayfeather, Lionblaze, and Dovepaw continue to seek answers to the mysterious prophecy that binds them, they learn that another cat may play an essential role in defeating the Dark Forces.

As Dovepaw, Jayfeather, and Lionblaze strive to understand and fulfill the prophecy that promises them great power, the cats of the Dark Forest begin to teach battle skills and techniques to different Clan cats through dreams.

Winter has fallen again, threatening the cats with hunger and freezing temperatures. The spirit-cats have told them they must spread like the Blazing Star in order to survive. Clear Sky wants to ally all cats to himself, but not all cats want to--like Gray Wing and Thunder, or Tall Shadow who wants to make a new camp, or River Ripple, or Wind Runner. No one wants to leave, but if they don't they will die.

Gray Wing and Clear Sky have very different visions of how to heal the divisions between the cats of the forest, visions that make war inevitable. Now Thunder and the rest of the cats must pick sides in the upcoming civil war among mountain cats, rogues, and kittypets.
